Introduction of cell

 What is cell biology?

- cell biology is the branch of biology that studies the structure, function and behavior of cells.

All living organisms are made of cells. A

cell is the basic unit of life that is responsible for the living and  functioning of organisms . Cell biology is the study of structural and functional unit of cell. Cell biology encompasses both prokaryotic and eukaryotes

history of cell

cell was first described in 1665 by  an English scientist called Robert Hooke.

He used one of the first microscopes to observe a thin slice of cork. He saw a lot of boxes which he called cellulae  a Latin word which means small rooms .

But surprisingly the first cells that  Robert hook  saw were dead cells. The first living cells were observed by scientist Antoine van Leeuwenhoek. He called tiny  organisms which he observed “animalcules” which means little animal

the observation of schleiden, schwann and virchow from what is known as cell theory.

Modern cell theory

1. all known living things are made up of cells.

2. the cell is structural and functional unit of all living things.

3. all cells come from per-existing cells by division(spontaneous generation does not occur).

4. cell  contains hereditary information which is passed from cell to cell during cell division.

5. all cells are basically  the same chemical composition.

6. all energy flow ( metabolism and biochemistry) of life occurs withing ells.
